Her Story

About Alicia M.

Alicia Higgs serves as a senior tax expert with 18 years of experience in the tax industry. She works for Intuit and runs her own practice, AMH Accounting Services, where her responsibilities include reviewing tax returns, ensuring compliance with the IRS and state agencies, providing tax planning and advisory services, handling letters, notices, and audits, and reconciling bank statements for business clients. Alicia is an IRS Enrolled Agent, the highest recognized credential within the IRS, allowing her to represent clients before the agency. She earned a master's degree in finance and accounting from Keller Graduate School of Management in June 2012, a bachelor's degree from Roseville University in May 2009, and an associate's degree. In 2017, Alicia founded the Huge Change nonprofit organization, through which she offers free tax preparation services via the IRS VITA program to low-income individuals, those with disabilities, and limited English speakers, while also training and mentoring tax preparers. She attributes her success to growing up in the inner city with limited privileges and striving to improve herself, as well as her commitment to helping her community. Alicia values integrity above all in her profession, given the sensitive nature of clients' personal financial information. She advises young women entering the field to be confident, consistent, and to obtain necessary licenses, and she cautions against doing business with friends or family.
