About Alicia
Alicia R. is a Corporate Controller with 18 years of experience in accounting. She currently serves as Corporate Controller for a healthcare company with about $80 million in revenues. She has been with the company for approximately two years and seven months, leading a team that includes a staff accountant and clerks, and managing month-end close processes along with other accounting responsibilities. Her earlier career includes starting as a bank auditor, serving in various roles such as area manager at a department store and corporate secretary for a paint manufacturer, spending over a decade at a large CPA firm, and taking over and running her family's real estate company. She holds CPA and CISA credentials. Alicia is a member of the CFO Leadership Council and ISAC, previously served with the Florida Institute of CPA Central Florida chapter, and is involved with Gift of Adoption as a current board member and former president, where she helped turn the organization around to fund more grants. Her professional goals include advancing to Chief Accounting Officer or CFO.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Accept the challenges. There are the things that help to help you see your capabilities and show what you're most able. It'll help your confidence.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The bigger challenge is getting somebody that can mentor you and really give you the advice that you need. Mentoring is a skill that's lacking.
