Alicia holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Chicago State University, a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Belhaven University, and a Master of Arts in Teaching, and she is currently pursuing a Master’s in Special Education at Mississippi State University. I attribute my success to hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to continuous learning, along with the support of colleagues and mentors who have guided me along the way.

The best career advice I’ve received is to pursue work that makes me happy and fuels my passion, and to recognize when it’s time to move on if that passion fades.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering this field to come prepared, bring their own joy, develop thick skin, and stay focused on supporting students despite criticism.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges in my field right now are frequent principal turnover, heavy administrative demands, and public misconceptions about teachers. Despite these hurdles, the work remains deeply rewarding because of the daily opportunities to support and witness student growth.

The values most important to me in my work and personal life are creating joy and a sense of belonging, while maintaining peace and positivity.
