Her Story

About Alisa

For Alisa Culp, wellness has never been about following trends. It has always been about feeling strong, capable, and connected to the life she is building.

Originally from Russia, Alisa has called the United States home for more than a decade. Over time, Dallas became much more than simply the city where she lived. Its energy, diversity, and international community felt familiar to someone who had built a life across cultures, and it eventually became the place where she would create something of her own.

Fitness had always been an important part of Alisa’s life. She spent years resistance training, experimenting with different workout programs, and looking for ways to become stronger and healthier. But something always seemed to be missing.

Then she discovered Classical Pilates.

What began as another addition to her fitness routine quickly became something much more meaningful. Alisa was drawn to the precision of the method - the attention to alignment, control, breath, and the small details that completely change the way an exercise feels. For the first time, she found a form of movement that wasn’t simply about working harder. It was about understanding the body better.

That discovery eventually led her to become comprehensively trained through Power Pilates and, ultimately, to open Dreamworks Pilates, her Classical Pilates studio in North Dallas.

Today, Alisa works closely with her clients, taking the time to understand not only their fitness goals but also how their individual bodies move. Rather than approaching every person with the same routine, she believes progress comes from meeting people where they are and challenging them thoughtfully from there.

“I’ve always believed in a slow and steady challenge,” Alisa says. “You don’t have to push your body to extremes to make meaningful changes. When you learn how to move correctly and become more aware of your body, strength develops in a completely different way.”

That philosophy is at the heart of her studio. Sessions are personal and intentional, with an emphasis on building strength, stamina, flexibility, stability, and body awareness. Some clients arrive with years of fitness experience; others are discovering Pilates for the first time. Alisa enjoys working with both.

For her, one of the most rewarding parts of teaching is watching a client begin to notice changes beyond the studio - standing taller, moving with greater confidence, feeling stronger, or simply understanding their body in a way they never had before.

Interestingly, Alisa’s path to teaching Pilates was far from predictable.

Before building a career in movement and wellness, she pursued two very different areas of education. She holds a master’s degree in Public Relations, Advertising and Applied Communication, as well as a foreign Bachelor of Arts degree in piano and music.

At first glance, music, communications, and Classical Pilates may seem like completely separate worlds. But to Alisa, there is a natural connection between them.

Years of studying music taught her discipline, concentration, rhythm, and an appreciation for precision. Her background in communications gave her another set of tools - the ability to listen, connect with people, and understand that the way something is communicated can be just as important as the message itself.

Pilates brought those pieces together.

There is rhythm in movement. There is precision in technique. And perhaps most importantly, there is a very human element to teaching - learning how to communicate with the person in front of you rather than simply instructing them.

Alisa also believes that being influential doesn’t necessarily mean being the loudest person in the room or having the largest platform. Sometimes influence happens quietly: in the relationships we build, the example we set, and the confidence we help someone discover in themselves.

Building a business has reinforced that perspective. Dreamworks Pilates reflects Alisa’s preference for quality over quantity and personal connection over a one-size-fits-all experience. She has intentionally created an intimate environment where she can remain closely involved with the people she teaches.

And while Pilates has become her profession, her own curiosity about health and movement hasn’t disappeared. She continues her education and remains a student of the method herself - a reminder that expertise and curiosity can exist side by side.

For Alisa, success is less about reaching a final destination and more about continuing to evolve.

Her journey - from Russia to Dallas, from music and communications to Classical Pilates, and from fitness enthusiast to studio owner - has not followed a perfectly straight line. But perhaps that is exactly what makes it meaningful.

Sometimes the most fulfilling path is the one you never expected to take.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alisa

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute so much of my success to the encouragement of my teacher trainer, Stormi Truesdell. She saw potential in me before I fully recognized it in myself and challenged me to become a better, more thoughtful instructor. She pushed me beyond my comfort zone, encouraged me to trust my instincts, and helped me understand that teaching Pilates is so much more than knowing the exercises - it's about learning how to truly see and understand the person in front of you. Stormi helped shape the instructor I am today, and the standards she instilled in me continue to influence the way I teach and run my studio. I'm incredibly grateful to have had a mentor who believed in me, challenged me, and helped me discover what I was capable of.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to never stop learning. Stay curious, keep challenging yourself, and don't allow yourself to become too comfortable. I believe growth happens when you are willing to step outside of what feels familiar and remain open to learning something new.

There is always another level to reach, another perspective to consider, and something you can improve. That mindset kept me motivated throughout my career and continues to shape the way I approach both teaching and running my business.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering my industry to believe in themselves, work hard, and be consistent. Success rarely happens overnight, so stay committed to what you want even when the path feels challenging. Don't be discouraged by hearing "no" - sometimes it simply means that you need to find another way forward. Trust your abilities, keep showing up, and don't be afraid to create your own opportunities. When you believe in what you are doing and are willing to put in the work, persistence can take you a very long way.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of my biggest challenges is simply finding enough time to accomplish everything I want to do. As a business owner and instructor, Im constantly balancing teaching, running the studio, continuing my education, and thinking about what comes next. There are always more ideas than hours in a day.

At the same time, I see a wonderful opportunity to grow by finding the right instructor to join me - someone whose approach, standards and goals truly align with me. For me, the growth isn't just about getting bigger; it's about finding the right person who shares my commitment to Classical Pilates and the personalized experience I've worked hard to create at Dreamworks Pilates.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Loyalty, honesty and hard work are the values that matter most to me, both personally and professionally. I believe in being someone people can trust and depend on, and in treating others with the same honesty and respect I hope to receive in return.

I also believe there is no substitute for hard work. Whether it's building a business, developing relationships, or working toward a personal goal, I try to show up, stay consistent, and give my best to the things and people that are important to me.
