Alisha has also mentored students by teaching a one-semester web design course at her alma mater. She values work-life balance, including time for fitness and personal pursuits outside of work.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alisha

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being confident in my array of skills, not fitting into a box, and combining my visual artistic side with the mathematical problem-solving side. Having both a creative mind and a problem-solving mind, along with approaching things with kindness, passion, and a desire to make an impact with the people I work with.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I received was to be confident in my array of skills and that I don't need to fit into a box. I can combine multiple types of my strengths, like the visual artistic side and the mathematical problem-solving side.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You don't need to be perfect from the get-go. It's okay to start unsure, to need to grow, to fail and then learn from those mistakes. Be confident in the process of learning and growing rather than where you think you're supposed to be from the very beginning.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The toughest challenge I experienced was the imbalance in computer science engineering classes with few females, making it harder to find camaraderie and people doing the same things. However, overcoming that led to lifelong friendships and opened perspectives on where females can belong and excel.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Finding a good work-life balance is important, allocating time for myself to stay healthy like getting to the gym and pursuing my sport outside of work. This contributes to my happiness, focus, and ability to balance multiple aspects of my day that I enjoy.
