Her Story
About Alison
I spent about 8 years working in donor relations with a nonprofit arts company, where I did a lot of the back-end work navigating behind the scenes for my team within our database and tracking analytics, but I was also very front-facing with our donors, helping them with donations, connecting with them on the phone, and seeing them at events. I think that sometimes in the classical arts, it's not as innovative and open to as much change, and that was something I was really interested in learning more about. As I got older and started my career, I figured out more about what my strengths are and what type of work environment I think I'm suited for. So I made a transition into AI and technology about 2 months ago, and I'm now a junior front-end developer. I've been really excited about it. My goal is to become a leader on a team where my work ethic and knowledge can back that up, whether that's just being someone that is a hard worker and has good ideas, or if I could manage some team members as well, which I would really enjoy.

Ten minutes with Alison
01What do you attribute your success to?
Honestly, I would say my hardworking attitude. I think I work really hard, and even if I feel discouraged, I'm like, I gotta keep, I gotta keep pushing through, I gotta keep going. And so, yeah, definitely hardworking, and also a little bit of fearlessness. You know, like, wanting to switch careers and explore what that would look like seemed a little crazy at times, and I was like, no, I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna go for it, and here I am. So I think having a little bit of that fearlessness with a lot of hard work goes a long way.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I definitely think being confident in yourself and your ideas is important. I mean, I feel like that is something I struggled with, and even now, as someone that's a new person in a field where maybe I feel like, oh, I don't know as much, so I'm not gonna say anything. But I'm gonna be confident in my ideas and own that. And so I think that that shows a lot to the people that you work with.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I would say intentionality. That's something I try to be really intentional in with my relationships, with my friends, my family, and in work, or where I spend my time. And definitely joy. I mean, I feel like I'm a joyful person and just try to spread that joy and be kind to others. When you are intentional about that, and you can see it, I feel like you just then get treated back with it. You know, without... when you really notice, you're like, oh wow, I'm putting this out, and I'm getting that back.
