Alissa Del Riego is an Assistant Professor at the University of Miami Herbert Business School, where she brings a unique blend of legal expertise and academic rigor to her teaching and research. Since joining the faculty in 2020, she has focused on educating the next generation of business leaders, leveraging her extensive experience in law and policy to provide students with practical, real-world insights.

Prior to her academic career, Alissa gained significant experience in the legal field, serving as an Associate at Podhurst Orseck, P.A., and Holland & Knight LLP, and as a Law Clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. She also served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami, where she began cultivating her passion for teaching and mentorship. Her professional background includes complex litigation, appellate work, and corporate law, which inform her approach to business education.

Alissa holds a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government from the University of Miami. She is committed to fostering student growth, bridging the gap between theory and practice, and contributing to a dynamic academic environment through both research and active engagement with the business and legal communities.

The best career advice I’ve ever received is that the people you work with are often more important than the job itself. Surrounding yourself with supportive, collaborative, and inspiring colleagues can elevate your work, shape your growth, and make every challenge more meaningful.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is simple: work hard, stay focused, and never undervalue yourself. Your skills, perspective, and contributions matter—so advocate for yourself, trust your abilities, and pursue opportunities with confidence.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is finding ways to stay relevant and consistently applying critical-thinking skills in an era where AI is rapidly evolving. At the same time, one of the greatest opportunities I have is the ability to interact daily with the future leaders of America—guiding, challenging, and supporting them as they grow into the professionals who will shape our world.

The values most important to me—in both my work and personal life—are loyalty, a strong work ethic, integrity, and honesty. I also believe that maintaining a sense of humor is essential; it keeps perspective balanced and helps build meaningful, human connections with the people I work with every day.
