That work was presented at the American Public Health Association's Annual Meeting in 2023. She also represented her university at both the U.S. and International American Mock World Health Organization Conferences, collaborating with future healthcare leaders on global public health policy and complex healthcare challenges.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alissa

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my curiosity, resilience, and commitment to continuous growth. I am not afraid to ask questions, pursue new opportunities, or remain focused on my goals when faced with setbacks. Building strong relationships and surrounding myself with supportive, encouraging people have also played an important role in my journey. Above all, I have learned the importance of believing in myself and having the confidence to pursue opportunities and challenges with determination.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to never be afraid to put myself out there and step outside my comfort zone. Rejection and failure should not be viewed as reasons to give up, but rather as opportunities to learn, grow, and become more motivated. I have also learned the importance of networking and building meaningful relationships, because every conversation has the potential to lead to a new opportunity, connection, or valuable experience.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering my industry is to continue challenging themselves, seek new experiences, expand their knowledge, and never stop learning. Do not be afraid to put yourself out there or step outside your comfort zone, as growth often comes from taking risks and embracing new opportunities. Let failure motivate you to work harder rather than discourage you, and always lead with kindness, professionalism, and respect for others.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in my field right now is the rapid evolution of healthcare innovation and AI automation. While these advancements can feel intimidating, they also create tremendous opportunities for professionals who are willing to adapt, embrace change, and continue developing their skills. At the same time, economic uncertainty has made the current market more challenging, as individuals and organizations may be more hesitant to spend or make significant investments. Navigating these changes requires flexibility, innovation, and the ability to recognize opportunities even in uncertain conditions.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are trustworthiness, honesty, transparency, and respect for others. I believe in maintaining a positive attitude, treating people with kindness and integrity, and doing the right thing even when no one is watching. These values guide how I build relationships, approach challenges, and conduct myself both personally and professionally.
