Her Story

About Alix

I discovered my path into technology through design thinking after completing my business administration degree. My first approach came through a workshop where I fell in love with the methodology of thinking from user needs and ideating new solutions. My first project focused on creating a bridge for the digital divide, and I've been passionate about technology ever since. I started as a digital project manager, then got deeply interested in UX, and eventually jumped into product management, which is what I do now. For the past 15 years, I've been building tech products, especially for startups, working alongside my husband who has been my mentor throughout my career. He's been CEO and CTO while I've handled the product side, and we've been building products together for 15 years. I'm self-taught in tech, having mastered the path to build and ship products to the world. I've started from scratch many times and I'm not afraid to do it again because I have the ability and flexibility to adapt and adopt new technology to build new things. I'm currently co-founder and CPO of Invent, an AI platform that shortens adoption time for business owners to leverage AI features for scaling their businesses. I'm also the director of Techno Latinas, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that I've been leading for 6 years. It's the biggest organic community for women in tech in LATAM, spanning across the world, and has been surviving and collaborating organically, helping women build networks from coworkers to friends.

Ten minutes with Alix

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say that I am not afraid about starting from scratch. I have been starting from scratch many times, building new things. The learning curve for me, according to my experience, has given me the ability and flexibility to adapt and also to adopt new technology to build new things. I would say that's part of my success today - that I am able to do everything I want because I am not afraid to start again and to do it again. I already know the path. I would say that I already mastered the path to build products and to ship them to the world.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Less talk, more work. You need to show up. You need to show up every day, no matter what. You need to show up no matter through small things or small tweaks, but you need to show up.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Do not be afraid of doing the things, no matter if you are the only woman in the circle. You need to say things out loud so everyone knows, so everyone can notice you, and everyone knows that you are there. For sure, you need to play an active role, no matter where you are at. But you need to play an active role.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges right now, specifically in the tech industry, is distribution. That is one of the biggest challenges, because right now, with technology, it's very easy to build. But it is not easy to maintain, and it is not easy to distribute. So you can have a pretty good product, but if you don't know anything about distribution, you're lost. It's like having nothing.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I would say ownership, and I could say that the most important of all is integrity. Integrity and ethics. You need to be aligned, and everything you think, and everything you say, you need to ensure that also you are doing it, not just saying it. That you are committing with something, or with someone, or with users, or with a company, but you are committed to do it on overall ethical verticals.
