About Aliza
Aliza Newman serves as Community Manager at AWS, managing all developer communities across the U.S. and Canada. In this role, which she began in January 2026, she builds relationships with local tech communities, supports volunteer-led user groups for professionals new to or building with AWS Cloud, and helps address their needs through strategic collaboration. Prior to this, she spent four and a half years in tech starting with a field marketing role at AWS focused on early-stage cloud customers, following three years in the nonprofit sector as a project manager and coordinator for a healthcare nonprofit educating pediatricians on trauma-informed care. Before entering tech, she managed communications and community programs at a park and rec district. Newman, who represents San Francisco, California, draws on her background in health advocacy and community outreach to foster inclusive tech communities. She has led community activations at AWS Summits, emphasizing visibility for underrepresented voices such as women in tech and first-time speakers.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Find a good mentor, especially if you are in a field where you do not see a lot of people look like you. A mentor can help navigate difficult conversations, negotiate pay, and not take no as the first answer. Don't be discouraged by rejections. Also, don't judge a role based on the first few months; give it 6-8 months to assess if it's a good fit and don't stop advocating for yourself.
