About Alizabeth

Alizabeth Aramowicz Smith serves as a leader on the Inogen Alliance Leadership Team and as Membership Director at Antea Group USA, where she has developed a successful career since joining the organization in a part-time role in 2007. Her professional journey began after completing her undergraduate and graduate studies, including an early international experience in Africa that shaped her global perspective. She went on to hold positions with the Indiana Department of Transportation and the U.S. Department of Energy, contributing to projects at facilities such as the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. She later gained experience in higher education and independent school settings before joining Antea Group, formerly Delta Environmental.

With more than three decades of experience in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) consulting, Smith specializes in global EHS compliance management systems, regulatory analysis, audits, inspections, training development, and risk reduction strategies. Her extensive international experience, including living and working in Germany, has equipped her with the expertise to help organizations navigate complex global regulations and develop effective EHS programs across Europe, Africa, and other regions. She is recognized for her ability to combine technical knowledge with strategic leadership, helping clients strengthen safety cultures, improve compliance, and achieve their environmental and operational goals.

Smith credits her success to the strong foundation provided by her liberal arts education at Earlham College, the valuable perspective gained through global travel and professional experiences, and the continued support of her family. She believes that embracing diverse viewpoints, remaining open to new opportunities, and learning from every experience have been key drivers throughout her career. Through her leadership at Antea Group and involvement with the global EHS community, Smith continues to advance innovative solutions that promote workplace safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable business practices.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alizabeth

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the foundation I gained through a strong liberal arts education at Earlham College. A liberal arts background, especially for those in STEM fields, encourages critical thinking and the ability to approach challenges from multiple perspectives. I have also been fortunate to have opportunities to travel throughout my career and work with people from different countries and cultures. Those experiences have broadened my understanding, strengthened my ability to collaborate, and reminded me of the value of seeing the world through different perspectives. Additionally, I credit much of my success to the support and encouragement of my family. Having a strong personal foundation has given me the confidence and resilience to embrace new opportunities, learn from every experience, and continue growing both personally and professionally.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering the industry to embrace opportunities and not be afraid to say yes. Throughout my career, I have found that taking chances, trying new things, and being willing to step outside of my comfort zone have led to some of the most valuable experiences and growth. Failure is a natural part of the learning process, and each challenge provides an opportunity to gain insight and build resilience. At the same time, it is important to recognize when it is time to set boundaries and confidently say no. Do not limit yourself based on your educational background or preconceived expectations. When opportunities arise, take the risk, explore new possibilities, and trust that each experience will help guide you toward your passions and future success.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges and opportunities in my field today are centered around the evolving needs of the workforce, workplace culture, and employee well-being. One significant challenge, particularly for women in leadership roles, is navigating the responsibilities of the “sandwich generation” by balancing career growth with caring for both children and aging parents. At the same time, the rise of remote and hybrid work has created new opportunities for flexibility but has also introduced challenges in building strong connections, maintaining organizational culture, and recognizing the personal experiences of employees beyond the screen. From a workplace safety and employee wellness perspective, there is a growing opportunity to help organizations adopt more proactive, risk-based approaches that prioritize both physical and mental health. As companies continue to expand globally, helping them understand the importance of investing in employee well-being, creating inclusive cultures, and aligning with evolving safety expectations remains a meaningful challenge and an important opportunity for positive change.
