About Allison

Allison Davis is the accountant and project manager for a health organization based in Blythewood, South Carolina. Prior to this, Davis spent nine years in public accounting, where she advanced to tax manager after starting with bookkeeping and administrative tasks. Her educational background includes a philosophy degree from Newberry College, pursued with the initial goal of attending law school, followed by one semester at Charleston Law School before she shifted paths. She values attention to detail and clear communication, principles she applies in managing projects and fostering team efficiency while prioritizing work-life balance as a mother and wife.

Ten minutes with Allison

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Details matter. They matter to a lot of people, right? Details and communication... paying attention to the details really makes a difference in the long run, no matter what you do.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

In the accounting field, enter with an open mind... if you're well-read and like puzzles, you might actually be good at accounting... stick it out because it is a very lucrative field that offers a lot of flexibility... As project management, know that you are a vendor, your job is to manage people... relationships are important, giving grace... bridge those gaps with open communication.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Our biggest challenge is clarity. Clarity on the trajectory of the business, clarity in processes... as a project manager, I'm not the one implementing and enforcing the processes... working with a team... partners... 3 of them might not see the value in having a laid-out process.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

God. Treating others as you want to be treated.
