Her Story

About Allison

Allison Shifflett serves as a lead editor and brand collaborator for an influencer. In this role, she manages all brand collaborations from start to finish, edits videos, creates scripts and concepts for the content, and double-checks requirements. She also delegates work to other editors and acts as a project manager to ensure daily tasks stay on track. Shifflett entered the field gradually after working for a baseball player whose wife is an influencer, where she began assisting with social media and developed a passion for the work. She has been established in the field for about four to five years. She double majored in psychology and criminal justice during college, though her career path has involved significant trial and error in a new industry. Shifflett attributes her success to observing other successful people pave the way in the field. She emphasizes the importance of setting boundaries to maintain happiness and a positive work environment, a principle she also recommends to young women entering the industry. Among her values, she prioritizes respect and decency when mistakes occur and favors hiring individuals with passion over those who appear strong only on paper.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Allison

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to seeing other successful people do it first and pave the way. It has been interesting to watch the process play out from start to finish in this field. I got into it slowly after working for a baseball player whose wife is an influencer, learning the tools along the way through passion and trial and error.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to have boundaries. It sounds kind of harsh, but it's very true to maintain happiness with what you love to do as a job. Everyone wants to have a job that they love, then you have to have boundaries to keep it that way and to keep it a positive environment.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women to have boundaries. It saves you if you want to continue on in it. You have to have the mental space to do what you love, so the boundaries help.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges is that when you have a certain style, like if you're editing a video and have your own personal style, you have to adhere to the style of who you are editing for. You kind of have to conform to other people's personality and see things from their point of view.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Respect and decency when people make mistakes is important because it's not the end of the world. I don't like when people are slow to hire, quick to fire. Sometimes people look really good on paper, but then there's someone with less experience but more passion, and that leaves them more room to grow and develop a real passion in the job.
