Alma Duran is the District Sales Manager at United Rentals – Fluid Solutions, where she leads and coaches a dynamic team of 17 outside sales representatives and 9 inside sales representatives. With a career spanning over two decades in operations and sales management, Alma has consistently demonstrated her ability to deliver results, foster strong client relationships, and support the growth of both her team and the organization. She has been recognized for her exceptional leadership with awards such as the District Active Leadership Award (2023), Women’s United Leadership Award (2021), and the prestigious Presidents Award (2021), distinguishing her as one of 16 recipients out of 28,000 employees.
Alma’s professional journey began as an Inside Sales Representative, where she quickly excelled and moved through various roles including Outside Sales, Branch Manager, and ultimately District Sales Manager. Her growth within United Rentals was fueled by dedication, resilience, and the encouragement of mentors who helped shape her career path. Alma is particularly passionate about providing turnkey solutions in fluid transfer applications, offering comprehensive support in pumps, tanks, filtration, and pipeline services to ensure her clients’ operations run efficiently and safely.

She recently completed a three-year term with the United Rentals Compassion Fund, a nonprofit organization providing financial support to employees facing life hardships. The best career advice I’ve ever received is to believe in yourself. Having confidence in your abilities and trusting your instincts has guided me through challenges and opened doors to opportunities I might not have pursued otherwise.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to be willing to learn and grow. Embracing new experiences, seeking out mentorship, and staying open to feedback are key to developing your skills and advancing your career.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is navigating a male-dominated environment, which can sometimes make it harder to have your voice heard or access certain opportunities. At the same time, this presents an opportunity to stand out, demonstrate leadership, and contribute a unique perspective that drives innovation and growth.
