About Alona

I am a nursing educator, researcher, and advanced practice nurse with over two decades of experience in academic leadership, clinical practice, and military service, currently serving as Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship at Baylor University, a role I have held since 2021, where I lead research initiatives and scholarship development to advance nursing science and education.

Prior to joining Baylor, I spent over twenty-one years at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in progressively responsible roles, including Graduate Program Director for the MSN program for over four years, Associate Professor for over four years, Assistant Professor for six years, and University Lecturer for over five years, where I contributed to nursing education, curriculum development, and student mentorship. I am also Professor Emerita at UNLV, a title I have held since 2021.

I am a Board Certified Nurse Practitioner with over twenty-six years of clinical experience in primary care, internal medicine, urgent care, and acute care settings. I also served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserve Nurse Corps and Clinical Director for eight years, and as a Staff RN and Relief Charge nurse in Cardiac IMC, Critical Care, Trauma ICU, and Emergency Department settings at University Medical Center and Desert Springs Hospital and Medical Center for four years.

I hold a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Across my career in nursing education, research, clinical practice, and military service, my work has been driven by a commitment to advancing nursing science, preparing the next generation of nurses, and providing compassionate, evidence-based care to patients and communities. Whether I am leading research initiatives, teaching nursing students, or practicing as a nurse practitioner, I bring a strategic mindset, strong clinical expertise, and a dedication to excellence that has defined my career. I am proud of the work I have done throughout my career and excited to continue advancing nursing education and research at Baylor University.
