Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alondra

01What do you attribute your success to?

I credit a lot of my success to the way that I was raised. My parents are both from Mexico, and I lived my life as a firstborn daughter of immigrants. My father would always tell me that the work that I put in today it set me up for a better tomorrow. It's because of the strength that they gave me and the belief in me that I could always do what I set my mind to, and that transferred onto the support and love that my husband gives me as well.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Contrary to what I did, enjoy every single moment. It's very easy to allow yourself to look forward to that finish line, to always look ahead. My advice is definitely to take a breath, to take pauses throughout that journey, to sort of look around you and recognize not only the people that you have, but the blessings that have come within that journey, to really savor every moment, take pictures. Have a goal in mind, but be sure to enjoy the journey it takes to get there, and savor every moment, especially with a picture.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I continue to just support department-specific in terms of their asks any events for resources that they have. It would be nice at some point to shift onto either consumer goods, or very specifically, crisis communications. I haven't necessarily gotten that opportunity in my role just yet. After 5 years of sort of curating my craft, I kind of know what I'm doing, and I do it well, but definitely seeking new opportunities to just learn something new.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value honesty. Transparency is sought after in government. I have always felt like I'm the kind of person that you can rely on. The value of collaboration, knowing that you're there for others the way that they are for you. I value someone that just knows how to help the little guy, even though they're the big guy. Humility and honesty.
