About Alondra
Alondra Palaciod is a procurement and operations professional serving as Senior Buyer for the City of Brownsville, Texas. She began in the role of Buyer in 2023 and was promoted to Senior Buyer this year. In her current position, she assists city departments with the procurement process, including solicitations such as RFPs and RFQs, contracts, vendor evaluation, and negotiations, while ensuring compliance with city, state, and federal requirements. Prior to joining the city, she worked as an area manager in the hospitality industry, overseeing five restaurant locations where she managed teams, budgets, P&Ls, hiring, training, compliance, and vendor relationships. She holds the Certified Texas Contract Developer credential obtained in 2024 and the Certified Texas Contract Manager credential obtained in 2025, both through the Texas Comptroller. Alondra attributes her success to a willingness to learn, asking questions, and challenging herself, and she values the improved work-life balance her current role provides compared to her previous position.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I think probably being willing to learn and not being afraid to ask questions. There's a lot of things that I didn't know when I started, so I tried to learn from people around me. And challenge myself.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be afraid to start somewhere. And work your way up. You don't have to figure it out right away, so take the opportunities to learn. Ask questions, and keep investing in yourself.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Balance the department needs with their requirements. It's communicating the process and finding the best way to meet their timelines without rushing.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Being able to manage both work and personal life, having work-life balance. This position gives more balance compared to previous 24-7 availability job.
