Her Story

About Alyce

I was very young and determined when I started in this field almost 20 years ago. I come from a family background involved in the radio business, and I'm the third generation. My uncle was in the business for nearly 40 years, and he showed me around and what it was all about. He took me under his wing and showed me the pros and the cons of the business, and how it all runs. He showed me how to do everything manually, and it was not easy - it felt like I was at the gym working out really hard. I was advised by mentors when I was young to get started in radio first so I could get used to a live environment and how everything is when everything's live. I worked for a sports radio station with the Angels in Anaheim, and during that time I was given a job offer and was supposed to be getting a promotion with the Angels, but things fell through. I've been a sports fanatic since I can remember. Recently, I started doing my own thing and launched my own podcast called the Amazing Elise Diaz Show, which is still in the works and coming out sometime in June. The show is about how I started out and came into sports. I'm also currently working on a certificate in sports journalism to keep up with advancing technology and stay in the loop with the newer generation.

Ten minutes with Alyce

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Dress to impress, and just don't let anybody tear you down.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Technology is advancing, and you just have to completely learn and keep in the loop so you can catch up with everybody. There's a generation that's more towards technology, and they know it more than the millennial generation, so I'm just catching up with them. That's why I'm working on a certificate in sports journalism right now, just to gain up a little bit more and catch up since technology is advancing.
