Her Interview
Ten minutes with Alyson
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work, dedication, education, and resilience. My Communications degree from the University at Albany and MBA from Niagara University provided a strong foundation, while surviving two brain cancer surgeries and later undergoing radiation and chemotherapy for a third strengthened my determination. That experience also inspired my passion for Buffalo Goes Gray, which has raised nearly $300,000 for brain tumor research at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Institute since 2014.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I’ve been fortunate to have many excellent mentors throughout my career who taught me to keep fighting, stay resilient, and never give up. My journey with Buffalo Goes Gray has become a major part of my success story, inspiring me to help others and continue building my future with determination, purpose, and strength.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is simple: never give up. Stay determined, believe in yourself, and keep moving forward even when challenges arise.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in my field is keeping up with rapid advances in technology. In my role, I understand the importance of continuously learning, adapting to new tools, and staying informed so I can remain effective and create meaningful impact.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are resilience, perseverance, and family. I’ve always worked hard and refused to give up, even while facing the challenges of brain cancer. Being recognized with several Cisco awards, including the Impact Award for starting Buffalo Goes Gray, as well as Account Manager of the Year and Distributor of the Year, has been incredibly meaningful. Above all, I value my family and cherish spending time with my husband and our daughter, especially by the pool, as we prepare to welcome our second child.
