About Alyson M.
Alyson M. Huber is a STEM Cybersecurity Academic Advisor at Southern New Hampshire University, where she supports cybersecurity and data analytics students as they pursue their academic and professional goals. Transitioning into an Advisor 3 role, she is recognized for her heart-centered approach to advising, providing holistic support that extends beyond academics to include student wellness, mental health, and long-term success. Her dedication to student achievement has earned her multiple nominations for the Excellence in Advising Award, reflecting the meaningful impact she has made on the lives of the learners she serves.
Before entering higher education, Alyson spent a decade as an elementary Montessori educator, frequently teaching STEM-focused science and mathematics courses. She earned a Bachelor of Education with a concentration in Child Development from Colby-Sawyer College and completed her Montessori certification through the North American Montessori Center. Her years in the classroom shaped her student-centered philosophy, emphasizing curiosity, individualized learning, and the belief that every learner can thrive with the right guidance and encouragement. Today, she continues to draw on those experiences to help adult learners navigate challenges with confidence and resilience.
At the core of Alyson's work is a lifelong passion for learning, research, and discovery. She believes authenticity, empathy, and intentionality are essential to building trust and helping students succeed. Her advice to aspiring professionals is simple: it's okay not to have all the answers—be honest, ask questions, follow through, and never stop learning. Whether advising students, mentoring others, or nurturing her love of gardening and flowers outside of work, Alyson is committed to cultivating growth, encouraging curiosity, and empowering others to reach their full potential.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My love of learning and curiosity. I have been fascinated by learning new things my whole life and have never actually left academia. Knowledge is a gift.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Fake it until you make it. Come at it with confidence and curiosity. Your heart is in the right place and you are not going to let your students down.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
It is okay not to know. You don't have to create answers out of thin air. The power of saying I don't know that information off the top of my head but I will follow up and get back to you will make you better. Slow down and be intentional in your work.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Students are financially struggling and we are on the front of a mental health crisis. We are having to help with those things more than ever.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Being authentic, coming at situations with empathy, always assuming good intent, finding your why and keeping your heart in it.
