Her Interview

Ten minutes with Alyssa

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to consistency, perseverance, and maintaining a clear sense of purpose. Throughout my career, every role I have pursued has been connected to a larger goal, and I have remained intentional about aligning my actions with the outcomes I wanted to achieve. I believe it is important to stay centered, focused, and committed to your vision, even when challenges arise. Consistency has been one of the most important factors in my growth, and I have learned that achieving meaningful goals often requires determination, patience, and the willingness to stay fully invested until you reach them.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The most valuable career advice I’ve received is to "Look at the Whole instead of just the part." In our industry, and many others, it’s easy to focus solely on immediate tasks. However, as you advance, it becomes crucial to broaden your perspective to understand the entire operation and how different factors impact the quality you deliver to guests. This approach helps you stay proactive, adapt quickly, and avoid panic when unexpected challenges arise.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Figure out what you want to learn. My first ever internship was at Disney World. The Executive Chef asked, "What are you trying to get out of this experience?" I wanted to work on a line, and essentially drown, so that I can learn how to swim. It's all about making sure that you set your sights on what you truly want to learn, so that you can build you skills and resume. Follow through even if it seems difficult. Be sure to have fun! We spend a lot of time working on our skills even if they are to provide for our life. Ensure that you at least can smile throughout the day.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Opportunities to expand your creativity. There are many opportunities in culinary not just in the kitchen; You can be in management, training, food science and many more. The opportunity to expand your knowledge of F&B is right in front of you. Figure out what path you want to take.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my professional and personal life are integrity, kindness, empathy, and respect. I believe in maintaining a strong moral compass and holding myself to a high standard in everything I do. Leading by example is important, I strive to demonstrate the behaviors and work ethic I expect from others. I also believe that empathy and respect are essential for building meaningful relationships, fostering trust, and creating positive environments where people feel valued and supported.
