Her Story

About Alyssa

I work in internal communications for a healthcare technology company, where I've been for almost 8 years. My role has really expanded over time. We started off supporting our entire organization with internal communications, but it's expanded a lot more into also supporting the rest of our marketing team, whether that's the content team with their external blogs, our product marketing managers, or the event team. We recently hired a new team member to support the growing work. We always want to communicate more effectively with the organization and support everyone in getting the word out for their group. We support everyone - HR is a really big customer of ours, helping with their culture and engagement. We really are able to be a partner to everyone, so there's always room for growth, which I think is really great. We get to be creative in so many ways. My organization really supports personal and professional growth, and I've been fortunate to continue working on projects I'm passionate about in communications, engagement, and culture.

01What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

We're trying to make the world a better place in the healthcare space, and that comes with challenges. We're always trying to move things forward, and I think that can cause us to move quickly sometimes. A challenge is taking that step back, looking at the problem first, and really remembering the why behind what we're doing. In terms of opportunities, our role is really expanding. We just hired a new member of our team because internal communications has expanded from supporting our entire organization to also supporting the rest of our marketing team, the content team, product marketing managers, and the event team. Our intranet and other communication channels are also expanding, and we're always looking for ways to meet the organization where they're at so we can communicate in a way that works best for them. There's always room for growth, and we get to be creative in so many ways.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Last year, I was fortunate enough to be brought on to be part of the team to develop our new core values as a company. We worked with all of our associates across the organization globally, holding workshops, and came up with six new core values which resonate with me personally. These include 'we do it differently' because we're doing something so different for the healthcare ecosystem. 'Do the right thing' is so important to me - I consider myself to be an empathetic person, so doing the right thing is important. And 'explore fearlessly' is one of my favorites, because I think that's something that we really get to do. I've been able to explore fearlessly in my career with this company, and just in my personal life. I love to be able to explore, and being able to have that in my daily life is so important.
