Her Story
About Alyssa
Growing up, I watched my mother manage a law firm, and I looked up to her as a hardworking professional. Both my parents raised me with the mindset that they never wanted me to rely on a man for financial support, so it was always about going to school and building my own career. I always knew I wanted to follow in my mom's footsteps in the legal field, and I also loved Law and Order, which drew me to this path. After receiving my Juris Doctorate, I joined Namzar Realty Group, a commercial real estate investment firm in Great Neck, where I've been for over a year now. In my role, I specialize in drafting legal contracts, specifically lease renewals for tenants at different shopping malls. A typical day involves reviewing emails for tenant updates and requests, receiving terms from our business people, drafting contracts, sending them to tenants, following up, communicating with tenant attorneys, redlining agreements, and seeing everything through to full execution. I knew that having experience in the corporate legal environment would be essential and a great way to start my career. I'm currently preparing to sit for the bar exam in July, and while it's my first time taking this incredibly difficult two-day exam covering eight different areas of law, I'm committed to this journey in the legal field.

01What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I would have to say the everyday corporate environment is challenging - working a standard 9 to 6 with a lot of sitting and trying to get my steps in for the day. I think a better work-life balance would be the biggest challenge. I also think just being a woman in general, wanting to have kids and a husband one day, is difficult. In my field, the legal field, it's a male-dominated field, so your intelligence can be questioned or given a second look in a way that maybe a man wouldn't experience. Balancing being able to be a woman, but also one day wanting to have kids and be a wife, doing all three at once, I think that's also going to be difficult.
