Her Story

About Alyssa

I've been working in sales for about 9 years now, specializing in windows and doors for Renewal by Anderson. What makes my approach unique is my strong background in psychology - I earned my degree in 2008, and it really helps me understand people and their needs on a deeper level. While most companies in this space are pretty construction-oriented, my work is more design-oriented. I help homeowners figure out what they're looking to do - are we restoring a home or completely changing it? What's the era they're working with? I currently train a team of 11 to 15 people who report directly to me. Once a week I go into the office for big-level training, and other times it's one-on-one where I ride with people to observe what they're doing in the field and help them tweak their craft. I also spend time out in the field myself, going to about two homes a day to meet new people, see really cool architecture and different homes, figure out what the homeowner wants and needs, build up the project, and get everything moving. I was number one for Western Washington in volume this past year in 2025. I really appreciate the fact that in sales there's no cap on earning potential - you eat what you kill. I think people that thrive in chaos, like me, look at it and say every day's a new opportunity to grow, learn, and earn. You can have a really bad week and the next day can completely change the entire month. I love the variability of meeting new people and seeing different homes every single day.

Ten minutes with Alyssa

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say in general I've just always been very driven, very internally motivated to get better every day, so working hard, you know, personally and professionally to learn and grow. Never just staying status quo or being happy with good enough.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Having grit is really important in sales. Always showing up, knowing that there's going to be highs and there's going to be lows. Just keep growing, keep learning, and don't give up, because it is high risk, high reward. It's really unfortunate because in my direct field, which is more construction-oriented, we don't have a lot of women that succeed or wind up sticking with it long-term. We've recruited so many and it's just a bummer - I go out of my way to try to help and have women stick with it. I think it's tough if you have kids too, because the hours are unpredictable. And because it's a male-dominated field, we do have to put up with some extra things that the guys on our team don't have to - them perceiving us as professionals in a construction industry that's considered masculine. So it's a little bit more work and a little bit more toughness to be able to deal with people like that.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

As far as opportunities, the opportunities are endless, right? With sales, I really appreciate the fact that there is no cap on earning potential. They're not telling you this is what you're worth for the whole year. They're saying, hey look, you eat what you kill. I think the people that thrive in chaos, like me, we look at it and say every day's a new opportunity to grow, learn, earn. You can have a really bad week and the next day can completely change the entire month. I love the fact that every day I get to go and meet new people, I get to see really cool architecture and different homes. I enjoy the variability of it as well.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, honesty, and then actually caring about others.
