Her Story

About Amanda

I've been working in the storage industry for over 2 years, and throughout my career, I've held various management positions where I've had the opportunity to influence and teach different employees. My background includes working at the State College of Florida in the Public Safety Department as an office assistant, where I was the meet and greet person and handled staff interactions. The director, Sean Patton, who is now the vice president of the public safety department, told me I was 'the unicorn of this department' because of how I handled multiple responsibilities. I represented the Public Safety Department at student activity days, which gave me valuable insight into that department and helped me along with my career. I believe my due diligence, education, and multitude of work experience allow me to naturally balance wearing multiple hats. I wake up early in the morning and accomplish what I need to accomplish each day - it just comes naturally to me from everything I've learned in the past. I've had career coaching in the past which was very beneficial, and I'm currently looking for a new career coach. Right now, I'm in the process of transitioning to another job because there's no room for advancement in my current position, and I'm applying to Florida State University for their professional communications organization management program for my master's degree. My next career goal is to accomplish a leadership role with a staff geared towards operations within the next 5 years.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my due diligence, my education, and the multitude of work experience that I hold. It just comes natural to me now. Since I have been in management positions, influencing and teaching different employees, and working in different areas, I've learned how to balance multiple responsibilities. I just wake up early in the morning and accomplish what I've got to accomplish that day. It's just stuff that I've learned from the past that allows me to handle everything naturally.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell them to approach it with grit and determination. If they come into any obstacles, just know that you don't allow them to overtake what you look for within the future for yourself. Just keep plugging away and keep reaching and learning. Education is super important. Even though you run into roadblocks with advancing within any organization, you just gotta keep going. That's what I live by. It's vital to have education to go on within your career path that you want. You can give people advice, but are they gonna take it? But that's what I would tell them - never give up and keep pursuing your education.
