Amanda Fowler, MBA, is a seasoned healthcare professional specializing in Revenue Cycle Management and leadership, with over 25 years of experience in the field. She began her career straight out of high school working in self-pay collections at a local hospital, gaining firsthand knowledge of patient balances and the insurance side of healthcare finance. From there, she transitioned into insurance roles and eventually moved into physician billing, building deep expertise in revenue cycle processes across multiple healthcare settings.

One of Amanda’s most notable achievements was during her tenure at Epiphany Dermatology (formerly Noonan Dermatology), where she served as Director of Revenue. Tasked with improving collections to allow the medical director to retire, she successfully reduced accounts receivable from 64 days to 18 days over six years. This accomplishment not only strengthened the practice’s financial health but also facilitated the successful sale of the organization—a milestone she cites as both professionally rewarding and personally fulfilling.

Currently, Amanda serves as Manager of Revenue Cycle at MedHQ (formerly Trajectory Revenue Cycle Services), overseeing a team of 15 employees responsible for coding, accounts receivable follow-up, and payment posting for a hospital in New Mexico. Under her leadership, the team consistently collects over a million dollars per month for this multi-specialty provider, with performance continuing to improve as processes and structures are refined. Amanda combines her extensive experience, operational expertise, and commitment to excellence to drive results, mentor her team, and advance healthcare management practices.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I absolutely attribute my success to Bill Spencer, the CFO at GoNow Doctors, the urgent care practice I worked for. He was my mentor from there all the way through the dermatology practice. When GoNow Doctors shut down, he called me up one day and said, 'Hey, Amanda, how would you like to come be the director for a dermatology practice in Noonan, Georgia?' I said, 'That sounds fantastic!' I mean, that was a career advancement for me at the time. So I followed him to Noonan Dermatology, and there he continued to mentor me. He is now retired, unfortunately, but we still keep in touch. He really helped me along those years, you know, along the way, through those years.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise her that she would definitely have to have a passion for it and be ready to tackle a challenge. It is a very challenging career choice.
