About Amanda

Amanda Joseph is a sales leader with more than seven years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, currently serving as a new District Sales Manager for the Neuroscience franchise at AbbVie in Birmingham, Alabama. She leads a team of 11 sales professionals dedicated to improving patient access to migraine therapies while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth. Throughout her career, Amanda has consistently demonstrated exceptional performance, earning four prestigious Summit Awards, being named Representative of the Year in the Northeast Area, and taking on leadership roles in marketing, training, and sales excellence initiatives. Amanda earned both her Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Communication with a concentration in Public Relations and her Master of Science in Communication Management, with a focus on Conflict Management and Dispute Resolution, from Temple University. She began her professional journey in public relations, communications, and marketing before transitioning into pharmaceutical sales, inspired by her family's connection to healthcare. Her diverse experience across psychiatry, neuroscience, rheumatology, and migraine specialties has equipped her with a strong foundation in consultative selling, relationship building, strategic leadership, and team development. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Amanda is passionate about empowering others and creating meaningful impact through authentic leadership. She serves as one of Alabama's state leads for Women Leaders in Action (WLA) at AbbVie, which is a catalyst that enables and empowers employees to reach their full potential. She also volunteers with Adopt a Golden Birmingham, a nonprofit whose mission is to find safe, loving, lifelong homes for Golden Retrievers. Drawing from the discipline and competitiveness she developed during 12 years as a competitive figure skater, Amanda embraces authenticity, empowerment, accountability, and resilience as guiding values. She encourages aspiring professionals to lead with kindness, remain true to themselves, and measure success not only by results but by the positive impact they have on the lives of others.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Amanda

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the discipline, resilience, and determination I developed during my 12 years as a competitive figure skater. My family's unwavering support and encouragement taught me to persevere through challenges, while my parents and professional mentors inspired me to always believe in myself, as mindset is everything. My dad always says, "Mind Over Matter" and my mom always says, "Don't Ever Let Them See You Sweat!" They showed me that every setback is an opportunity to learn, grow, and come back stronger. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to lead with compassion, empathy, and never underestimate the power of believing in people. My mentors, especially my exceptional sales leaders (Geoff Gross, Ronda Brathwaite, Amanda Moore, and Eric Bernard) throughout my career, taught me that success is built on resilience, hard work, and genuine care for others. They encouraged me to see challenges as opportunities, celebrate progress and the small wins, and create an environment where people feel valued, supported, and inspired to succeed. The act of kindness will always be remembered over a sales number.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to be yourself, never hesitate to ask a question, say yes to every opportunity, and seek mentorship. Build meaningful relationships, don't be afraid to schedule one-on-one conversations with peers, leaders, and take initiative in your own role. You don't need a title to make an impact—lead through your actions, support others, and let your character speak for itself.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I believe the biggest challenge in healthcare is navigating constant change while continuing to deliver exceptional outcomes for patients and the teams we support. At the same time, I see every challenge as an opportunity for growth. Whether stepping into new leadership roles, adapting to industry changes, or helping my team overcome obstacles, I've learned that resilience, a positive mindset, and a commitment to continuous learning turn setbacks into opportunities. By embracing change, collaborating with others, and focusing on solutions, we can grow as leaders and make a meaningful, lasting impact.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that matter most to me are authenticity, honesty, accountability, and collaboration. I believe in being the same genuine person at work as I am in my personal life. I strive to empower those around me by encouraging and supporting their success, while holding myself to a high standard and taking ownership of my actions. I also believe that meaningful achievements are built through teamwork, open communication, mutual respect, and a willingness to learn from others.
