Her Story
About Amanda
I've been in my field for more than 8 years. I work at Meta, the big tech company, in the intersection between AI and marketing science. I graduated in civil engineering, but after my internship I realized I didn't want to work on the construction side. So I decided to pilot my career into the tech world. That's why I started my first post-graduation course in data science, then another specialization in artificial intelligence. I have a very technical background, but I also have a lot of experience with client interactions. I work on the intersection of technical skills and translating this into data-driven insights and more understandable ways for clients and audiences that are non-technical. I also work with technical audiences, so I would say that I'm hybrid, that I can explain for both non-technical and technical audiences. I'm from Brazil and moved to the US 9 months ago. I was relocated by Meta, the company I work for.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say something that I would say to my old version, like my best self. I would say that invest in your communications and in your soft skills. As I came from a very strong technical background, in the first years of my career, I used to think that it was the only thing that matters, that it was the most important thing. And when I shifted and I started investing in my communication skills and soft skills, I noticed that a lot of change in my life. I think that everyone should have great communication and soft skills, because in the end, you always have to deal with people, so it's super important.
