01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to following my calling toward medical technology, which led me into a hospital program and eventually into the laboratory field. As the oldest of ten, eight of whom were foster to adopt, navigating CPS and children’s medical needs taught me resilience, responsibility, and the drive to make a difference.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received came from my mother, Kathy Graham, who showed me through her own journey—earning her AA, working her way up in the Sheriff's and Attorney General's office, and now pursuing her master's in marriage and family therapy that education and perseverance open doors no matter where you start.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is simple: don’t be afraid to try new things, speak up for yourself, and don’t sweat the small stuff—it’s all part of the learning process.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Not enough people are coming into the field with a love of science or understanding of information infrastructures to prepare for what is coming next for medical laboratories in the future. With staffing shortages and new technological developments, one has to be hungry for learning and always striving for what's to come.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, integrity, and staying humble guide everything I do, both at work and at home—whether I’m reading a great sci-fi novel, taking on a new renovation project, or caring for the animals on our ranch.
