Her Story
About Amanda
I've been in the transportation field for about 16 years now. I got into this industry because the management team I worked with recommended it to me, and I just kind of went full force with it. That's how it all suddenly happened. A typical day for me is probably just making sure the team is together and up to speed on everything, making sure all paperwork's filled out correctly, and if any problems arise with my employees, I talk them through the problem or try to advise and give them correct information to go get the help that they need, or even guide them in the right direction. Honestly, communication is the biggest thing that we have in this department and in my role that helps me become successful and make sure my team is successful. The organization and making sure your team is on the same page, along with scheduling, are kind of our top challenges and hardest points. I've been fortunate to have great mentors throughout my career, particularly my area manager Janik, who I've worked with previously, and Jim Brown, whose intelligence and background with the company, and the confidence he has placed in me in this position, has helped get me further in my career.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never give up, keep trying, keep pushing, and then did you document it, is a big one. That's the greatest piece of advice I've received throughout my career. Documentation is so important, and the mindset of never giving up and keep pushing has really stayed with me. Sometimes work is stressful and you don't know what way to go, but if you never give up and keep pushing, you'll get through it.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Determination is a big one for me. Make sure you're determined to finish the job, no matter how tough it is, and just to stay focused and keep breathing, because sometimes it is stressful, and you don't know what way to go, but if you never give up and keep pushing, you'll get through it.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I would probably say the organization and making sure your team is on the same page are major challenges in transportation. Scheduling is kind of one of our top ones that are our hardest points. These are the biggest challenges we face in the field right now.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honestly, it's the communication, teamwork, and just overall making sure the team is satisfied and happy. Communication is the biggest thing that we have in this department and in my role that helps me become successful and make sure my team is successful. In my personal life, I'm a single mom, so just being a mom to my three kids and encouraging them to shoot for their goals is what I'm focused on. When you have kids, you just kind of focus on them, not yourself.
