About Amanda

Amanda McCallum is a Marketing and Outreach Professional specializing in senior housing, healthcare, and community relations. With a career dedicated to helping older adults and their families navigate senior living and care options, Amanda has built strong expertise in connecting communities with resources during critical moments, including hospital transitions and long-term care decisions. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Clothing and Textiles and Marketing from Washington State University and further developed her leadership and negotiation skills through the Harvard Negotiation and Leadership Program, DISC certification training, and healthcare-related credentials.

Amanda’s professional journey spans decades of experience across marketing, recruiting, training, and relationship development. Before entering senior care, she spent nearly 20 years in retail with Bon Marché, later becoming Macy’s, where she held roles in buying, store operations, corporate training, recruiting, and marketing. She later transitioned into recruiting and senior housing, serving as a Regional Account Manager at 1st CHOICE Advisory Services and holding leadership roles in community relations and outreach with organizations including Koelsch Communities and Eden Health. Throughout her career, Amanda has emphasized the importance of communication, collaboration, and ethical guidance in helping families make informed decisions about care.

Amanda’s passion for senior care is deeply personal, inspired by her family’s experience with dementia and the challenges of navigating care options. She has dedicated her time to supporting dementia awareness and caregiver education through her volunteer work with the Alzheimer’s Association Oregon & Southwest Washington Chapter and HOPE Dementia Support Group, where she has served as a facilitator and community advocate. Outside of her professional commitments, Amanda enjoys life on the river, boating, spending time with her husband, three daughters, and family, as well as pursuing her lifelong passion for performance through competitive tap and jazz dancing and playing the violin.

Ten minutes with Amanda

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my passion for the work I do and my personal connection to dementia care. Seeing my mother’s care journey and my father’s role in managing resources inspired me to help individuals and families find the right support, guidance, and resources they need.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to build meaningful relationships and stay focused on creating value for others. In senior housing and care, my goal is to connect seniors and their families with the right resources, services, and support systems while building trusted partnerships that improve their quality of life.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to be genuine, listen carefully, and always put the needs of seniors first. Approach every situation with compassion, integrity, and an open mind. Focus on guiding seniors and their families toward the right resources, understanding options like Medicaid benefits, and collaborating with professionals such as elder law attorneys to ensure they receive the best support without unnecessary financial burden.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges and opportunities in my field come from the growing need for compassionate, informed senior care solutions. My mother’s dementia journey deeply inspired me to become an advocate for seniors and their families. After experiencing firsthand the challenges of navigating care, I became passionate about helping others access the right resources, services, and support systems to meet their unique needs and improve their quality of life.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are strong communication, balance, and meaningful relationships. In my work, I believe clear and compassionate communication is essential to building trust and supporting others. In my personal life, I value maintaining balance, spending quality time with my three grown children, and making sure there is always room for fun and connection.
