About Amanda
Amanda Myers serves as the Chief of Occupational Safety Issues for the Department of the Air Force. With 22 years of experience in the field, she began her career in active duty military service focused on occupational and weapons safety. After retiring in 2014, she transitioned to an occupational safety manager role and advanced through various positions to her current leadership post. In this capacity, she oversees policy development for occupational, weapons, and flight safety, emphasizing risk management procedures, policy oversight, budgeting, and regulatory compliance with OSHA guidelines, while also acting as an OSHA liaison and handling CAP investigation and epidemiology. Last year, she received the Civilian MSM medal, and she considers her promotion to this position, where she develops policy for the Air Force and Space Force, among her proudest achievements. She attributes her success to serious dedication, patience in working through political policy and applying regulatory compliance from leadership, the ability to infer from new material, and a focus on keeping airmen and guardians safe so they can return to their families. Looking ahead, she aims to advance to the top levels of Air Force policy and oversight, including congressional-level work in the coming years. She has been guided by several supervisors from her active duty days who encouraged her to pursue unexpected career paths.
