Her Story

About Amanda

Amanda Peterson serves as a product leader at Flossie, an AI startup based in New York. Since joining nearly a year ago, she has expanded the company's initial AI voice receptionist into a multi-agent platform that includes coding, workflow, and task agents alongside voice capabilities, now serving appointment-driven businesses across dental, med spas, and vet clinics. Her professional journey began with a psychology undergraduate degree from BYU between 2004 and 2008, followed by work supporting individuals with addictions and eating disorders. She pursued a joint JD/MBA program but left 18 credits short to join a nonprofit startup in 2014, marking her entry into tech. Subsequent experiences include an MBA internship at eBay, consulting with Humana on data-driven health recommendations, heading data science at The Farmer's Dog, founding an early digital twin platform, and working as a backend software engineer for four years at Second Life before transitioning to product roles at ThoughtWorks. Amanda also maintains a side project called Rover at playwithrover.com, which uses computer vision to help seniors in elder care facilities combat isolation while tracking cognitive health. She credits her success to a persistent, solution-oriented mindset that fosters growth in teams and emphasizes building trust through relationships and ruthless prioritization. Her values center on integrity, authenticity, and maintaining intuition amid rapid industry change.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Amanda

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to having a mindset of not giving up. I am extremely solution-focused. I rarely find complaining to be helpful, and as a leader it inspires the team to follow a growth mindset where no matter what happens there is a path forward, a solution, a way to think about things differently. Like hiking a mountain, you can only go one step at a time.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice is that your net worth is your network. It takes a village, and you need to prioritize relationships and practice ruthless prioritization because one person cannot be successful in isolation. It is about developing trust with others.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is to have a very strong relationship with your gut and intuition, to trust that. Be a good person of integrity and honesty so you can trust yourself even when the majority is shouting something different. Use experiments and data to guide you but do not lose connection to yourself amid the noise.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is that there is so much opportunity it puts you in a rat race leading to burnout. People are working 996 or 997 schedules because competition is fierce. You have to stay relevant, have strategic product sense and focus, wear multiple hats, and keep a level head while things move incredibly fast.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Values most important to me are being a good person worthy of trust who offers trust to others, integrity, trustworthiness, growth, authenticity, genuineness, honesty, and sincerity. As a leader, being mindful, giving people the benefit of the doubt while having high expectations, and being real and honest.
