Ten minutes with Amanda
01What do you attribute your success to?
The one person I talk about all the time is my dad. He started his life at the age of 16 as a third shift nobody at his job, and he worked his way up to Board of Directors, upper management, in the same job his entire life until the day he died. He had an amazing work ethic, and he was what inspired me. He taught me my work ethic, and he was always my sounding board. Everything that I have as far as my business sense, my drive, my ambition, and all of the things - it's from watching my dad do what he did. My dad passed away 11 years ago when he was only 50 years old. I lost him at the age of 29, and even though that was an incredibly difficult time, it shaped who I am today. He was a planner who wanted to plan for retirement, but he didn't get to enjoy those things, which taught me to not only plan for the future but also live for today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Live life to the fullest and live with no regrets. This became extremely important after my dad passed away. I used to live so cautiously and be scared of the future and scared of tomorrow, but now I've learned that yes, you need to plan, but also live for today. My dad was a planner - he wanted to plan for retirement and plan for those things, but he didn't get to enjoy them. So while you should plan, you also need to live for today and not wait for the perfect moment. The perfect moment is now.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to plan for the future and pursue your goals with intention, but don’t put your life on hold while waiting for the “perfect” time. Embrace opportunities, enjoy the journey, and make choices that allow you to build both a successful career and a fulfilling life without looking back with regrets.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is balancing the many responsibilities that come with career, family, and ministry while remaining fully present in each area. At the same time, I see a tremendous opportunity to invest in teenagers and young adults, helping them build a strong foundation of faith, purpose, and leadership as they prepare to shape the future.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important thing to me is organizing my life so that my faith comes first, then my family, and then my work. I want to prioritize ministering to young adults because I feel like the teens and college-age people are often the most forgotten age group in ministry, and that's the important place to form a foundation for your faith. I want to have time for ministry, time for my family, and time for the clients and business that I want to build, where I can put my passion for accounting and my love for people all together. Treating my clients the way they deserve to be treated is incredibly important to me. When things get hard and stressful with wearing multiple hats, I rely on my faith and my husband - he's my rock. Together we work through it and balance each other out. We're a team, and downtime with family is so important.
