About Amanda

Amanda Kepley is a Nursing Home Transition Program Supervisor at United Disabilities Services Foundation in Reading, Pennsylvania. In her current role, she develops and oversees programs that support individuals transitioning out of nursing homes and back into community living. She coordinates essential services such as housing placement, caregiver support, home-delivered meals, and connections to state waiver programs and community-based resources, with a strong focus on promoting independence and stability.

Amanda’s career began with a shift in academic and professional direction. She initially studied journalism before transitioning to elementary education at Millersville University. From there, she worked in part-time teaching roles and later moved into therapeutic support staff positions, which led her into case management work with children experiencing behavioral health challenges at New Story. This early experience in direct support and case coordination laid the foundation for her long-term work in human services.

Over time, Amanda expanded her focus from pediatric behavioral health to adult services, joining United Disabilities Services where she worked in home and community-based services before stepping into her current supervisory role. Her professional philosophy centers on leveraging Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) to help clients access underutilized resources and achieve greater independence. She is particularly committed to ensuring that individuals have access to safe housing, appropriate supports, and the tools needed to successfully reintegrate into community life after institutional care.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to follow my passion. I believe it is essential to genuinely enjoy your work, because without that sense of fulfillment, it becomes difficult to stay motivated and committed each day.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering my industry is to find something you truly love to do. When you are passionate about your work, it becomes easier to stay motivated, overcome challenges, and grow in your career over time.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges in my field today include the shortage of affordable and accessible housing options, as well as the difficulty of connecting individuals with the resources they need. While there are many support services available, a significant challenge is that people are often unaware of what exists or how to access them.
