About Amanda
Amanda Velazquez has dedicated 12 years to the healthcare field, working at Kaiser Permanente for nearly 9 years as a medical social worker and associate clinical social worker. Her path into the profession was shaped by personal family health experiences, leading her to focus on specialty palliative care where she collaborates with doctors, nurses, and chaplains to support patients and families facing serious illness. She also teaches social work and psychology at a community college to mentor the next generation. Velazquez earned her Master of Social Work from USC and holds a Certified Case Manager certification while awaiting her LCSW licensure. She has received a Compassionate Care Award and internal Kaiser recognitions, including a facility-wide highlight. She remains active in her USC alumni group, engages in nonprofit and community volunteering, and serves as a class parent at her daughter's school. Velazquez emphasizes staying true to personal values and joy when advising young women entering the field.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Really look at what is important to you, not what you think others expect of you. Stay true to what brings you joy and listen to that, while also looking at the financial impact and what is sustainable. Figure out what brings you joy and don't succumb to other people's expectations.
