Her Story
About Amanda
I am the Senior Exhibit Developer at the Museum of the Bible, where I started in December 2023 and was promoted to my current role in January. With nearly 10 years in the cultural heritage field, I have worked for nonprofits at city, state, and national levels, and am now working for a private nonprofit. My proudest achievement is developing the exhibition, The Megiddo Mosaic: Foundations of Faith, in 2024, which became the most successful temporary exhibition in the institution's history, drawing over 250,000 visitors since opening September 2024.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Amanda
01What do you attribute your success to?
It has to be the way that I grew up. My parents were really, really amazing, and always told me that I could do literally anything I wanted. I've also had some really incredible mentors, women that stood by me and offered their experience and expertise without asking for anything in return.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Always be on the lookout for other women. Meaning two things. One, look out for those other women that you can help, and also be looking out for who's that woman in the room that you want to get into, and asking her, you know, get me in that room.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my industry right now is competing with the quality and level of customization consumers are now accustomed to accessing from home--things like video streaming, VR gaming, podcasts and other forms of edutainment. We are really just trying to pull people off the couch, and it's not just the museum industry, that goes for leisure, travel, attractions, etc. The other huge challenge in the museum world right now is censorship.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I'm motivated by uplifting the oppressed, seeing the people that feel unseen, and hearing the people that feel unheard. This drove my research as a student of Displacement and continues to influence my personal and work life today.
