Her Story

About Amanda

Amanda Wood has been working in her field since 2001. She originally went to school for paleontology and genetics, loving both science and art, the latter influenced by her mother's master's degree in art. After realizing her initial path might not yield strong financial returns, she became a real estate agent in her home state of Maine. During this time, a pivotal moment at an open house led her to refine her personal style, boosting her confidence and sales while also styling coworkers and friends. She later took on project management duties at a telecom company, serving as the head liaison for AT&T cell phone tower build-outs, all while continuing to style those around her. In 2019 she formalized her passion by opening her own company full-time, providing personal styling, interior design, and bespoke websites. She employs what she calls the alignment method to ensure everything in a client's life, from clothing to furniture to websites, works in harmony. She also served as a visual merchandising instructor at Immaculata University. Amanda attributes her success to her independence from a young age, her exposure to art through her mother, her tenacity and passion, and her heartfelt desire to change people's lives through her work. She emphasizes treating every client with the utmost white-glove experience regardless of budget, maintaining high morals and ethics, and advises aspiring solopreneurs to leverage creativity, AI tools, and human connection to start with minimal resources.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Amanda

01What do you attribute your success to?

It was my independence from a young age, with my mom being in art and being around that all the time seeing that beauty. I was able to take all of that and harness it and move forward with my tenacity and independence. I just had a fire under my belt. It is my love for it and my passion for it and my heartfelt wanting to have other people come out of the other side feeling different, like I feel different. It was about clothing or furniture or a website but I feel different. That is the huge main purpose of why I do this, because I love changing people's lives and my tool is websites, furniture, and clothing.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You can be a solopreneur and you can do it and you don't have to have a team right at that moment and you don't have to have huge startup funds to get your going. If you have the creativity and the idea, and nowadays with AI you are able to take your creative thoughts and what you want to contribute to the world and with the human-to-human connection for persons wanting to be in art, architecture, fashion, you can research it and create something and get started so much faster. With a dream and creative juices and some gumption you do it.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I treat every single client no matter what experience they're going through with me, whether styling or the website or the interior design, in terms of their budget or how much or how little or what kind of option they went with, that I treat every single person as if they are a millionaire. I want every single person to have that utmost white glove experience. I never ever want somebody to feel diminished in any possible way when they are working with me. I make sure that they feel on top of the world 24-7. My morals and ethics are very high.
