Amaura Calhoun

I've been in the hospitality field for two years and have been working as a student ambassador for one year. I started off wanting to do culinary, but I decided to switch to hospitality because I wanted to go into hotel management. As a student ambassador, I work alongside teachers in the Kemmons Wilson program - Kemmons Wilson started Holiday Inn, so I'm representing that legacy. My typical day involves taking hospitality operations classes, doing research, and right now I'm working on a project where I'm researching an influential hospitality company and doing an interview with them. I also help with events or anything else they need assistance with. My most notable professional achievement so far is becoming a student ambassador - I didn't know I would be picked to do that. After I graduate, I'm hoping to get into the hotel industry, maybe work at the Peabody Hotel downtown Memphis or at Holiday Inn. My goal is to work my way up to manager and then eventually branch out and own my own hotel.
