Her Story

About Amber

Amber Hagan is a dedicated Revenue Specialist with the Florida Department of Revenue, where she works closely with clients to navigate complex Medicare and insurance questions. With over a decade of experience in finance and health insurance, Amber has built a career around helping people understand their coverage, access medications, and connect with essential social services. She is particularly passionate about providing clear, empathetic guidance and making complicated information accessible to older adults.

Amber’s professional journey began in healthcare and customer service, including supervisory work at CVS Pharmacy and a secretary specialist role at a prison. She later focused on Medicare, finding her niche in helping clients manage coverage and navigate the intricacies of insurance plans. Her hands-on approach and willingness to support clients even after hours have earned her recognition as a trusted advocate and problem solver.

Outside of her current role, Amber values continuous learning and personal growth. She earned her GED and pursued nursing studies at Chipola College, receiving a CNA certificate in 2006. Throughout her career, Amber has been recognized for her excellence in client service, including three STAR Awards at Humana, and she continues to dedicate herself to making a meaningful impact on the lives of those she serves.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Amber

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to myself, and I know that sounds selfish, but I can see what my work has actually done to help people, and I know that I feel like I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing. By doing just that, I'm fine. I've done what I needed, and I can pat myself on the back. When it all comes together, it comes full circle, and I can see my work from start to finish. I've always loved helping others, and when clients come in so scared and worried, but by the end of my meeting they're great and they know exactly what's going to happen and they're prepared for what's going to come, that's the best thing. If you leave them blind, you just don't know how detrimental that is to an elderly brain, and there's already so much confusion up there as it is. If you can just break it down for them and give it to them straight, that's all they want.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this field is to take it slow and follow your dreams—success may take time, but if you stay persistent, you’ll get there.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is the complexity of Medicare, which often leaves older adults without the medications or services they need because they don’t know their options or struggle to navigate phone-based systems. The opportunity lies in providing more direct, personalized support and exploring community resources, like local daycare services, to better meet people’s needs.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value helping others, showing compassion for older adults, and prioritizing family-centered care in both my work and personal life.
