Her Interview
Ten minutes with Amber
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of hands-on experience, persistence, and a commitment to continuous learning. Beginning my career at the foundational level as a file clerk and paralegal gave me a practical understanding of the legal field and built a strong work ethic that has stayed with me throughout my career. Over time, I remained focused on growth, consistently seeking opportunities to expand my knowledge and take on greater responsibility. My resilience in navigating challenges, paired with a deep interest in justice and advocacy, has helped me stay grounded and motivated while advancing into increasingly complex and impactful roles.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to always come prepared. Preparation is not just knowing the facts of a matter—it's anticipating the questions before they're even asked and understanding the other side's position before you sit down at the table. When you are the most prepared person in the room, you project confidence, you earn trust, and you create better outcomes for everyone you serve.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to build your network and stay curious and committed to learning. Relationships are long-term investments, and connecting with mentors, peers, and leaders genuinely and early will open doors that your resume alone might not open. In addition, the professional landscape is evolving faster than at any point in history with the rise of AI. The women who will lead tomorrow are the ones investing in their knowledge today, so read voraciously, pursue certifications, attend conferences, and ask questions.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge and opportunity in my field is the rapid acceleration of AI within an already complex healthcare regulatory environment. AI is moving faster than every legal framework we have in place, including contracts, privacy, employment, liability, IP, attorney-client privilege, and regulatory compliance as a whole. Healthcare attorneys are on the front lines of figuring out how to deploy these tools responsibly by balancing innovation with patient safety and privacy and offering meaningful potential to improve care delivery and operational efficiency.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The value most important to me in both my work and personal life is integrity. In law, your reputation is your currency and integrity is how you earn it. Integrity in my work life means telling people what they need to hear rather than what they want to hear, flagging the inconvenient risk, and building a reputation that can withstand scrutiny when the stakes are highest. In healthcare law especially, where every decision has a downstream effect on real patients and real lives, integrity is not a professional courtesy—it is a responsibility. At home, integrity means the exact same thing. Keeping your word, owning your mistakes, and being the same person behind closed doors that you are in every room you walk into professionally. When your values are consistent across every area of your life, people trust you completely, and that trust is the foundation of every meaningful professional and personal relationship.
