Her Interview
Ten minutes with Amber
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say it's my ability to adapt and grow within this industry on a consistent basis. My referral base really speaks for itself. It's a very competitive industry, and I've made connections with people from all over the U.S. Those people have passed my name around, and I've even taken on a new client from Georgia, a place I've never worked before, but somehow my name spread that far, which was really cool. I think it's just my knowledge in the industry as a whole and my ability to dive into it and be respected in it. I put myself into very uncomfortable positions, asked a lot of questions, and didn't take no for an answer when speaking with different people and trying to get myself into different rooms. I buddied up to certain different people from different backgrounds and tried to absorb everything I could from them.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Right now, the insurance industry is changing a lot. Insurance companies are screwing over homeowners by not paying what they should be and switching their policy language without educating homeowners about the changes. Getting items like code items covered has become much more difficult because they put little nuances in the policy language that releases them from having to cover those items, putting the responsibility on the homeowner instead. From 2021 to currently 2026, there's been an increasingly different situation where policy language was in favor of the homeowner back then, but nowadays homeowners are paying comparable premiums but losing out and having to pay more out of pocket when detrimental things happen to their homes. One of the biggest challenges is that most of the adjusters I have to deal with don't have as extensive of a background knowledge in construction as I do. They're people who worked at places like Kohl's as a manager and took a position with no prior training to become a desk adjuster, and they don't know a hammer from a screwdriver. Trying to explain to them that something is a code item or a necessary component to the repair is super difficult. The other huge challenge is that people are creating AI programs to do exactly what I do, so I have to pitch myself as to why I'm a benefit as a real person versus a computer, because there's always going to be something wrong or missed, and no one's going to be able to read emotion from an adjuster like I could.
