Her Story
About Amber
Amber McMahon has dedicated six years to social work and mental health, with a focus on substance use disorder treatment. After achieving sobriety in 2010 following personal struggles with opiate addiction, she pursued education by earning an Associate's degree in chemical dependency counseling, which included her CASAC certification as a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor. She began working in the field during her studies and was promoted to inpatient counselor upon completing her associate's degree. Amber then pursued and completed her Bachelor's degree, followed by her Masters. She is actively involved in agency leadership, serving on the Core Values Committee and the Trust Committee while acting as the LGBTQ+ liaison for the Binghamton location. Her career aspirations include advocating for changes in the healthcare sector to better serve vulnerable populations by reducing barriers to effective services. Amber emphasizes the values of integrity, authenticity, and family in both her professional and personal life.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't stop. Don't stop, keep pushing forward. We are going to be met with challenges and barriers along the way, but as long as you continue to push forward and keep your eye on the prize at the end. Sky's the limit.
