What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to always being a team player and coming forward with ideas. I think with my organization and past jobs, a lot of change can come your way, and being able to be flexible and work around those changes, and always trying to help your team as best as you can, despite any of those things, is really important. I like to have a solution-oriented mindset, rather than just saying, oh no, that won't work. I think if you see a challenge, you should just try figuring out the best way to solve that challenge.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is that we can't take anything personally. When it comes to marketing, a lot of the work we do is to bring other people's visions to life, so I constantly tell other people this advice too. By always having that mindset, I approach work as work. This has helped me be able to match a lot of different personalities. I always try to take away maybe the tone in which people are talking to me, and just try to get to the message in which they're trying to communicate. That's always been the most helpful thing to me.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I'd say always be curious and want to learn more. I think the minute I started in any new role I've had in my career path, I always wanted to know what it is that my other teammates did. I think the better I was able to understand everyone's roles outside of my own, and the way an organization is structured, really allowed me to do well within my own responsibilities and skills. So, always be curious, always want to learn more. I think that could take you a long way.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
When it comes to marketing and social media, I think the biggest challenge is that it's always changing. There are new trends coming out every single day, the algorithm and tech is always advancing, and what might have worked yesterday might not get the engagement tomorrow. So, you always have to be changing with the times and being open and willing to try out new things, especially when it comes to marketing and social media. It really is just like throwing things at the wall and seeing what will stick. You never know what video you put out there will get the views and engagement, but you can't be scared, and you can't be intimidated by putting yourself online. You just have to do it, and being consistent means you'll end up getting the audience that you're really looking for.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I really try to give people recognition when it's due. I feel that goes such a long way. A lot of times when you're working, you're producing and producing and producing, and not getting much recognition in the small things that you're tasked with. So, when it comes to my team, just always giving them that positive affirmation, I think, goes a really long way. I value trust and communication, and creating an open space where people feel encouraged to bring forward ideas. I think those are things I really value - trying out new things and not being shot down. Especially in this space where you're always trying to reinvent the wheel and come up with new solutions to the same old challenges you're always facing.
