Her Interview
Ten minutes with Amelia
01What do you attribute your success to?
I always want to be better at my craft. This is a calling. You gotta listen to that voice. It's really important to always be the person that puts their best foot forward, make sure that you're knowledgeable, you continue to keep up, and you really gotta be dedicated.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received came from mentors who taught me that nursing is far more than completing tasks—it's about educating, advocating, leading, and making a meaningful difference in people's lives. My first nurse educator showed me the value of compassion, strong work ethic, and lifelong learning, lessons that have guided me throughout my career. My parents also instilled the importance of perseverance and believing in my abilities. Together, those influences shaped the way I practice, lead, and mentor others today.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You have to be prepared. This is not television. It's a difficult time in healthcare right now, particularly with staffing. So I think you have to be the person that not only holds on, but is willing to make the change. You have to be the ones to initiate change.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities in healthcare today is finding the right balance between experience and innovation. Advances in technology, evolving patient needs, and workforce challenges are transforming the profession, and I believe these changes create opportunities to improve patient care while strengthening the next generation of healthcare leaders. With decades of clinical experience, I'm committed to lifelong learning, mentoring future nurses, and continuing to contribute in meaningful ways. I believe the future of healthcare depends on professionals who embrace change, share their knowledge, and remain dedicated to compassionate, patient-centered care.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The three things that I live by is effort, consistent, and honesty.
