Amena Amires

I started my career as a classroom teacher, a role I held for almost 10 years before transitioning into an instructional coaching position. I eventually moved into district administration, serving as a district admin over math curriculum. From there, I transitioned into consulting, where I've been working for coming up on 2 years now. Currently, I work as a contractor and serve as a lead of the instructional reviews that happen for the state of Texas. In this role, I help oversee and manage the review process, which is intended to assess if programs are aligned with the requirements for high-quality instructional materials and House Bill 1605. The information we gather goes before the State Board of Education, and they make the final determination. I manage the review process by hiring Texas educators across the state who come and do these reviews and collect the data for us. In total, I've spent 15 years in education, combining my time as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and math coordinator. Looking ahead, I want to give back to my community more by empowering other women and young girls in their career paths and aspirations and dreams. I plan to become an influential figure for young girls, and within my organization, I'm focused on building up and leading the people I work with, helping them grow in their career paths. It's less about me and more about just giving back to others.
