Q

What do you attribute your success to?

At a young age I was inquisitive about anatomy & physiology. I would read my mothers old medical book and read and draw medical things and organs, asking her what things meant. I've always had a passion to serve, a passion for people, and the heart to serve. I kept that near and dear to my heart and let that motivate me to stay in healthcare. My mom said to me when I was younger “ diamonds shine in the back too” don't try to be in the forefront to be seen , and this resonates with me until this day. So I always tell myself keep shining somebody will see you. Just keep going, And so I just kept going.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is do not get complacent and always be growing in whatever role that you're in. My mom also used to tell me, don't try to be in the forefront, stay in the back, somebody will see you. Just keep going.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to never become complacent. Continuously seek opportunities to learn and grow, persevere through challenges, and let a service-oriented mindset guide your decisions and career path.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is keeping pace with evolving coding systems and the increasing complexity of our work, which requires ongoing education and recertification. At the same time, there are significant opportunities: trauma data can provide meaningful insights to shape public policy and enhance safety measures, and there is great potential to integrate healthcare expertise with legal practice through healthcare law.

Now that I am a 2nd year law student this is a new challenge for me but I accept it and I’m walking by faith .

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are compassion, caring for people, and having a passion to serve. I've always had a passion for people and the need for caring and compassion, which I keep near and dear to my heart. It's very rewarding to see trauma patients recover from their injuries and come back to tell us how wonderful they're doing, how we blessed their families, and how they're getting re-acclimated to life if they lost a limb. That caring and compassion part has motivated me to stay in healthcare throughout my career.
