About Amrutha
Amrutha Kilaru is a food safety and quality assurance professional with nearly 5 years of experience in the food industry. She earned her bachelor's degree in agriculture and went on to complete a master's degree in Food Science and Technology at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. After graduating, she started as a Quality Technologist Level 2 and worked in that role for 8 months. She then transitioned to her current role in the food industry, where she has been for nearly 2 years. Her motivation stems from a desire to provide safe and quality food to people, a passion that developed during her studies when she recognized issues with nutrition and malnutrition.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
During initial phases I struggled with being too kind and doing tasks myself instead of correcting subordinates. Advice was to point out mistakes so they can grow, even if it feels less kind at times. Another advice: if everyone says you are good then you are doing a lot of sacrifices and you are wrong.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Just don't stop in beginning phases. Keep fighting and don't get too comfortable with the work. If you get comfortable that means you're not learning. Face the challenges. Don't take a step back.
