Her Story
About Amy
Amy Bowman is a highly experienced insurance and financial services professional who has dedicated 36 years to State Farm and the communities she serves. She began her State Farm career in January 1990 in Jacksonville, Florida, where she spent six years working in auto operations and claims as a claims adjuster. In October 1996, she transitioned to the agency side of the business, beginning a career focused on developing client relationships and helping individuals, families, and businesses protect the people, assets, and goals that matter most to them. Today, Bowman serves as a State Farm Agent and operates two offices in South Carolina, including her original Beaufort location at 1284 Ribaut Road and a second office in Ridgeland, which she opened five years ago. Her decades of industry experience have given her a comprehensive perspective on insurance, customer service, agency management, and relationship-based business development.
As a locally owned State Farm agency owner, Bowman has built her professional philosophy around personalized service, trust, and long-term relationships. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, she takes the time to understand each customer's circumstances, priorities, and aspirations before developing strategies designed to address their individual needs. This relationship-centered approach has helped her establish lasting connections with clients while developing a team of high-performing professionals who share her commitment to exceptional customer service and helping people achieve their personal and business goals. Bowman views leadership as an opportunity not only to serve her customers but also to mentor and empower the people on her team, creating an environment where they can pursue their own professional and personal aspirations. Her approach reflects her belief that successful insurance professionals should be trusted advocates who remain engaged with their clients and provide guidance as their needs evolve.
Bowman's approach to leadership and service is deeply rooted in the values she developed growing up in humble circumstances. As the first person in her household to graduate from college, she learned early the importance of perseverance, discipline, and creating opportunities through hard work. Her father, an electrician, was a particularly strong influence; his dedication to his profession and commitment to showing up every day instilled in Bowman a lasting appreciation for reliability, determination, and personal responsibility. She continued that example by working toward her education while pursuing her career, including attending school at night, and taking advantage of opportunities at State Farm. Bowman now encourages young women entering the insurance industry to recognize their natural strengths and never view compassion or a caring nature as a weakness. She believes that leading with empathy allows professionals to build genuine connections, earn trust, and become true advocates for the people they serve. Her commitment to service extends beyond her agency, as she supports community initiatives including the Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA) and United Way's Power of the Purse. Through her professional leadership, community involvement, and people-centered approach, Bowman continues to make relationship building and service central to her career.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Amy
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the strong work ethic and determination instilled in me from an early age. I grew up in very humble circumstances and became the first person in my household to graduate from college. My father, who worked as an electrician, was a tremendous influence; his dedication and commitment to his work, including his unwavering reliability, taught me the value of perseverance and personal responsibility. Those lessons, combined with the opportunities I received at State Farm, motivated me to continue my education by attending school at night, pursue my professional goals, and work alongside my husband to build the life we envisioned.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the insurance industry is to lean into their strengths and never view a caring nature as a weakness. Compassion can be one of the most powerful qualities a leader can bring to the profession. Build genuine relationships with the people you serve, become invested in their lives, and strive to be someone they trust as a true advocate. When clients feel that you genuinely care about their well-being and are there to support them like a member of their own family, you create lasting relationships built on trust, loyalty, and meaningful service.
