About Amy

Amy Cummins is a retired law enforcement professional, victim advocate, artist, motivational speaker, and aspiring clinical mental health counselor whose life has been dedicated to protecting and empowering others. Beginning her law enforcement career in 1996, she served for 23 years as a police officer, frequently working as one of the few women in the profession. Following her retirement after surviving breast cancer, she transitioned into victim advocacy and currently serves as a Victim Coordinator with the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office, helping victims of crime navigate the judicial process and providing support during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Driven by a passion for healing and service, Amy returned to graduate school and is pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. She plans to establish a private counseling practice focused on domestic violence survivors, victims of sexual assault, trauma recovery, and children and adolescents. Her unique combination of professional experience, personal resilience, and faith-based perspective provides her with deep insight into the needs of individuals overcoming adversity.

Beyond her work in criminal justice and counseling, Amy is also a professional artist, motivational speaker, and author currently writing two books centered on trauma, healing, and resilience. She has served in numerous volunteer leadership roles supporting victims, youth, and mental health initiatives throughout the Houston area. Recognized as an Influential Woman representing Texas for 2026, Amy continues to dedicate her life to transforming pain into purpose and helping others find hope, healing, and strength.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Amy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my faith, my desire to serve others, and my determination to live without regrets. As a follower of Christ, I believe we are called to use the gifts we have been given to help people rather than harm them. I want to make the most of the life God has given me and avoid looking back with regrets about opportunities I failed to pursue.

My son has also been a tremendous source of motivation and inspiration. Being a mother strengthened my desire to keep moving forward and continue making a positive difference. I believe each of us has unique talents, and I have always felt called to use mine in service to others.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I believe the first step toward success is learning to truly know and love yourself. It is important to understand who you are, what drives you, and what you are passionate about before pursuing any goal. Self-worth and self-awareness create the foundation for everything else.

I also believe resilience is essential. Life will inevitably present challenges and disappointments, but setbacks should never define your future. If you are passionate about something, you must continue moving forward, even when you encounter rejection or failure. Persistence and determination are critical to long-term success.

Continuous learning is equally important. Study successful people, learn from their experiences, and never stop improving yourself. Even if you have to begin with small opportunities, continue growing and building your knowledge. Speak with conviction and respect, and remember that meaningful success is achieved through patience, humility, and perseverance.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I believe one of the greatest opportunities in my field is the ability to provide healing and support to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and childhood trauma. Early intervention and access to quality mental health services can help individuals avoid carrying unresolved pain into adulthood.

Another important opportunity is the growing awareness surrounding trauma-informed care and mental health advocacy. By combining my experience in law enforcement, victim services, and counseling, I hope to help individuals heal, empower survivors, and create lasting positive change within communities.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Faith, service, compassion, and resilience are the values that guide my life. I believe we are called to help others, use our talents responsibly, and leave the world better than we found it. Serving others has always been central to my personal and professional mission.

I also value perseverance, lifelong learning, and living without regrets. I strive to embrace opportunities, continue growing, and use my experiences to encourage and empower others. Above all, I believe in transforming adversity into hope and helping people discover healing and purpose.
